What Is Spiritual Warfare?

I want to talk today about something that is often misunderstood, minimized, or avoided altogether: spiritual warfare.

I could talk on this subject all night.

There was a time when I did not believe angels and demons were active in our daily lives. But by the grace of our Lord, He began to teach me—slowly, carefully, and mercifully. And He continues to teach me as I am able to receive it.

The same is true for you.

There is a spiritual realm all around us. It is not imaginary. It is not symbolic only. It includes both demonic influence and angelic intervention. And while we may have a strong, loving relationship with the Lord, Scripture warns us not to be ignorant of the enemy’s tactics—especially in these days.

I want to remind you of a familiar passage:

2 Kings 6:15–17 (NKJV)
When the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”

So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

And Elisha prayed and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

You and I often begin where that servant began—seeing only what is natural, visible, and explainable. But there is more to be seen. More to be understood. And once the Lord opens your eyes, you realize that these things are very real.

Let me ask you something.

Have you ever heard a story like this?

A person wakes in the middle of the night feeling pressure—hands pressing at the base of the skull, near where the spine meets the head. There is no fear at first, just resistance. When the name of Jesus is spoken, the pressure eases. When it is spoken again, the attack ends.

Afterward, the body settles, but the mind begins to process what just happened.

Was it real?
Was it spiritual?
Was it just physical?

Here is what I want you to understand.

As we grow in the Lord, as we yield to Him, as we become willing to speak truth and walk boldly, we are no longer unnoticed. Growth attracts attention—not from heaven only, but from the enemy as well.

That does not mean we should fear.
It means we should be aware.

Many people experience things like this and dismiss them as age, stress, overexertion, or “just one of those things.” And because they don’t recognize the spiritual element, they never resist. They never speak the name of Jesus. They never engage the authority they have been given.

And yet—when the blood of Jesus is pleaded, when His name is spoken, the pressure stops.

That alone tells us something.

Spiritual warfare is not about being obsessed with the devil.
It is about refusing to be ignorant of his devices.

God is faithful. He does not open our eyes all at once. He teaches us line upon line, precept upon precept, as we are able to bear it.

So I’ll ask you the same questions I had to ask myself:

Can you grasp this?
Can you accept that the unseen realm is active?
Can you allow the Lord to teach you without fear?

Because once you see, you don’t panic—you stand.

And when you stand in Christ, you are never standing alone.
