Don’t be Flippant

📌The Weight of His Words

Jeremiah 23:36-40

“For every man’s word will be his oracle, for you have perverted the words of the living God, the LORD of hosts, our God.” — Jeremiah 23:36

There is a trembling that comes upon the soul who realizes that God’s words carry eternal weight. In Jeremiah’s day, prophets and priests were saying, “The oracle of the Lord!” as if it were a slogan. They used the phrase to appear spiritual, to gain influence, or to justify their own thoughts. The Lord called it what it was — a perversion of His living Word.

He told them to stop saying it. Yet they would not. They wrapped their rebellion in sacred language, pretending to represent Heaven while their hearts sought recognition on earth. Because of this, God withdrew His presence and declared a reproach upon their name.

This passage still speaks to every generation of ministers, prophets, and watchmen. The Holy Spirit is not a tool for self-validation. His voice is not a banner for ego or platform. When we claim “God said” without waiting for His true voice, we create confusion in His name.

But the Lord is merciful to those who tremble at His Word. He still invites us to pause and ask, “What has the Lord spoken?” He still raises up messengers who fear misrepresenting Him more than being misunderstood by people. To those who honor His words, He entrusts more.

Let the watchman remember: the message does not belong to the messenger. The weight of His Word is holy, and the privilege of speaking it must always be carried with humility.

Point to Ponder

Have I treated the Lord’s words as sacred, or have I spoken quickly without confirming that He has spoken?

🙏 Suggested Prayer

Father, let my words be few and my ears attentive. Teach me to tremble at Your Word and to speak only what You give.

Deliver me from pride, assumption, and the need to appear spiritual.
Purify my tongue, and let the fire of truth rest upon it.

May every word I speak carry the fragrance of Heaven and the weight of Your presence.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
