When Jesus Steps Back
“For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” — James 3:16
The room was full, the seats were taken, and everyone had come to hear a Word. But somewhere between the introductions and the message, the attention turned inward. Voices rose. Opinions collided. Arguments broke out over small things — who was right, who was wrong, whose way was best.
At first, no one noticed that Jesus had stepped away from the front.
He had been ready to speak — the Word Himself among them — but as the sound of contention filled the air, He moved quietly to the back of the room.
He stood there, still clothed in light, but uninvited to continue. His presence hadn’t left, but His voice was drowned out. The people had become so busy defending truth that they had stopped listening to it.
That is what strife does. It makes us believe we are contending for righteousness when we are really protecting our own pride. It fills sacred places with noise and leaves the Spirit of Truth standing silently at the back.
Jesus will not compete for the floor. He doesn’t force His way into chaos. He waits until peace returns, until humility clears a path for His presence again.
If the arguing stops — if one heart remembers the reason they came — He will step forward once more. And when He speaks, every voice that once clamored for attention will fall silent in awe.
The meeting isn’t over. It’s waiting.
🙏🏻 Prayer
Lord Jesus, forgive us for the times we have filled the room with our own noise.
Teach us to recognize when we’ve talked past Your voice.
Restore the reverence that invites Your presence to stay.
When we gather, may You never have to step back again.
Amen.🦋
