God’s Favor

1. What is God’s Favor?

Definition

In Scripture, favor refers to the unearned, undeserved kindness, approval, and support of God. It’s when God leans toward you with His goodness, acting on your behalf–not because you’ve earned it, but because you belong to Him.

  • Hebrew word: Chen (חֵן) – grace, favor, graciousness.
  • Greek word: Charis (χάρις) – grace, kindness, gift.

It’s closely tied to God’s grace, but “favor” often emphasizes His tangible intervention and preference toward someone.

2. Biblical Examples

God’s favor shows up when He singles someone out for blessing, protection, or opportunity:

  • Noah: “But Noah found grace [favor] in the eyes of the LORD” (Genesis 6:8).
  • Esther: She was given favor with the king that saved an entire nation (Esther 2:17, 5:2).
  • Mary: “You have found favor with God” (Luke 1:30).

In each case, God’s favor opened doors, shielded them from destruction, and positioned them for divine purpose.

3. How Favor Works for a Christian

Because of Jesus, we live in a covenant of favor.

  • Romans 5:1–2 – Through Christ we stand in grace (favor) every day.
  • Ephesians 1:6 – We are “accepted in the Beloved.”

Favor is not just occasional; it’s your permanent position in Christ. It is activated by faith, obedience, and expectation.

Benefits of God’s favor:

Protection…Psalm 5:12…God surrounds you like a shield against attacks.

Promotion…Genesis 39:21…Joseph was promoted even in prison because of favor.

Provision…Exodus 3:21… God moved Egyptians to give Israel gold, silver, and clothing.

Open Doors…Rev. 3:8.. Opportunities others can’t shut.

Restoration…Psalm 102:13…God’s favor brings timely turnaround.

Influence…Proverbs 3:3–4… People are drawn to help you without natural explanation.

5. How to Walk in God’s Favor

  1. Believe it’s yours – Faith is the activator (Psalm 84:11).
  2. Speak it daily – Declare: “God’s favor goes before me today!”
  3. Stay aligned with His will – Obedience keeps you positioned (Isaiah 1:19).
  4. Treat others with favor – Sow favor and you’ll reap favor (Luke 6:38).
  5. Expect divine connections – Look for God to arrange meetings, opportunities, and solutions.

Bottom line:

God’s favor is His supernatural endorsement on your life. It causes what you touch to prosper, makes people see you differently, opens doors you couldn’t open, and protects you when the enemy attacks. It’s not a “someday” blessing–it’s your right now inheritance in Christ.
